Part of the reason I complain so much about targeting in football.

First it’s that, then a receiver can’t cut even going to the boundary, then they say you ain’t allowed to block period towards the opposite end zone…erosion little by little ….stuff doesn’t get soft overnight. And this ain’t about football. It’s indicative of a larger issue …just the easiest place for me to draw a comparison

I agree with you about football. I remember the coaches, and older players, especially during a game saying "KEEP Your Head On A Swivel!!" As we also should in life. Football / Wrestling / Contact sports is a great teacher of life for boys / young men.

Football / Wrestling / Contact sports is a great teacher of life for boys / young men.

Sports can be so much better for kids if parents are just realistic about what goals they are trying to achieve. Very very few get any kinda college $$, and diddy always sees a superstar in his kids where a mediocre player exists. It hurts the kid to not be realistic, and they miss all the "good stuff" about sports.

Putting Buzz in football was one of the best parenting decisions I made. He was a smart kid, so school wasn't challenging. Having him put on the pads and constantly have to go against guys bigger than him taught him a lot of lessons about hard work and perseverance. He lacked speed, size, and talent, but ended up being the captain of his Sr year, not because he was the best player, but because the whole team looked up to him for his work ethic and toughness. He was never going to play any sport in college, but the lessons about discipline, etc went a long way in his undergrad and he is currently applying them in law school.

I am "extreme" according to some.......but I guess according to you I am too easy on my kids. I will make sure my daughters get a fell axe for Christmas this year.

The funny part is ya caint. Its just not what them boys think it is. The overwhelming desire for comfort and security will be the death of all free men.
