Any luck yet public land guys?

What say ye? Any of you public land fellas been out yet? Went yesterday and found a good wallow and some heavy use trails. Was hot but oh well. Had to get out in the woods to hunt! Good luck to everybody in this early "small game" hog season!

Heading out Sat morning on some NF land. Trying to decide on weather to take the ML or stick with the 22. Saw some hogs last year but they were always too far to get a good shot. Took my daughter who sees better than I do and she got her first.

NICE! any pics? I went for a while opening morning but saw very little sign. Hope to get up in the morning and go for a couple hours again I was there at daybreak and out by 11 o’clock plan on doing the same thing again . The sign I saw was down low next to the creeks like we’ve all been saying it is hot !

Yea these guys were in a very wet swamp/creek bottom. All of them yacht I have been seeing scouting over the past 2 weeks were down low. I did observe some fresh rooting all up a hillside leaving the creek bedabout a quarter mile from where these guys were shot.

Went out today and got skunk’d.
Saw lots of sign and fresh sign.
The mountains may be tough because of the end elevation changes, but man, the vegetation in the south is rough.

Yea it’s thick down here but the mountains still kick my butt. Definantly easier to hunt the softer topography.

I got skunked today too. Plenty of sign and I was as low as I could go. I put in 4 miles today. 2 miles yesterday. I like hunting the south better than the mountains. Laurel thicket is just that. I changed 800' in elevation twice just in todays adventure. Lucky to get 100 yd visibility. I've only killed 4 pigs on public land up here and over 30 down south this year.

Mountain hogs are like ghosts! I never knew there could be an animal that leaves so much sign but is so hard to hunt!

22mag. It’s one of the old cheap hammerless lever action Winchester 255s with the aluminum receivers. It was my dads, then my squirrel buster when I was a kid. Still have it 20 years later. I think they made them through the 70s.

Same here. Hit some really fresh sign today, but no pigs in sight.

I put an arrow through one at Pine Log Sunday afternoon. Had an intermittent blood trail but could not locate it. Guess the coyotes will get that one. It had several of his friends with him. Lots of sign as well. Shot with an Excalibur 308Short crossbow.

Went yesterday evening. Didn't see any while hunting but saw one in road driving home after dark. Diggers.
