Jersey....

Traveled to New Jersey for Thanksgiving. I had no idea that New Jersey had good trout waters, because the only thing my dad did outside was drink a cold one in the garage. @Philhutch80 visited not too long ago and showed me some pics and gave me some spots to try. Since my family sleeps until noon and spencer and me had no idea where to go, I hired a guide named Mike from Cold Water Creek Fishing - money well spent. He was amazingly patient with Spencer (sent me off on my own). He realized that Spence could already cast and started teaching him about reading water: seams, pockets, etc... It was really cool,.

The morning started at 24 Degrees F and didn't get much warmer throughout the day.
Layers were key and surprisingly, he was fine. I kept asking, as dads will do, and he kept responding with a resounding, "Dad, I'm fine... We are NOT leaving!" The guide thought that dedication was pretty funny.

At any rate, we didn't get on many, but the ones we did were fun and colored up!

South br Raritan.
We were one of about a dozen groups out in the cold and one of only two that we heard of that caught anything. The guide was so cool and worked really hard to get us on good water.

Your not a amateur dude!!!
Quit lying.

HAHA! I am totally an amateur at hunting. Missed my chance at two, that's right not one, but TWO gigantic public land bucks! One was from the hills and I made the mistake of holding eye contact (even after you had told me way back when not to do that) and the other was from the south and just wanted to get it on with his lady friend. I get that, but dang, stop for an arrow or two before hand buckster....

Now when it comes to dead drifting a fly down some cool mountainous stream water, I can snag a trout or two once in a while. I ain't no @Philhutch80 or @Browniez though when it comes to trout fishing so I will retain my newb profile until I kill a hoss deer, black bear, and/or land a 25" brown trout. HAHAHA.

Great job Steve and Spencer. Glad you had a great time. Pretty water up in Jersey.

Jonathan, thanks man. As soon as we parked, I looked at the water and was like, daaaaaang! It reminded me of our mountain streams here in GA, but particularly reminded me of the wild and scenic portions of the 'tooga. It was smack dab in the base of a gorge and gorgeous!

You can whistle or look at deer in the eye.
Both will make them stop and then run except one sometimes works and the other sometimes doesn’t.
GoodLuck out there my friend.
Cant wait to camp with you again except this time a little bit longer wouldn’t hurt.

Fine fish, and much more inviting scenery than I would expect in NJ. Looks like a very happy kid, too!

West Jersey is beautiful. It’s all mountains and rolling farm hills and quaint little townships. Tons of diverse fishing and all the bedrock is limestone so the hatches are awesome! I got the chance to fish and explore there and New York and Pennsylvania last year. Just like other parts of the mighty and ancient Appalachian mountains, it feels very familiar.

I just don't like traveling to foreign socialist countries where you have to disarm yourself at the border.

Had some clients from Jersey at our Christmas party last weekend. Former LEOs. They were in awe that I could carry concealed or open and that I had 30 round magazines for my rifles. Sad.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: This made me laugh a lot!!! You generally fly over Virginia or you can drive around it, lol. One of my main buddies @b5fish is from New Jersey and could tell us more about the gun laws up there as he is from New Jersey.

Looks like you guys had a great time! Glad you were able to get on some fish. I apologize for not being able to link up with you in NJ. I had family matters to attend to.. Cancer sucks..

Guns in NJ stay in the safe.. In GA they stay on my hip!
