Default What is your range "workout routine?"

When you go to the range do you certain drills, practice certain situations, different distances?

I'm primarily a hunter so when I shoot rifles I just usually try and replicate hunting situations. Shoot left-handed a time or two, off hand, etc. If I go shoot clays I might spend a lot of time on one specific stand.

But I'm fairly new to handguns so I was wondering what kind of excercises you guys do. I've been practicing going from the first round in DA to the subsequent rounds in SA and the old "2 to the chest one to the head" but after that I run out of ideas. Any help?

Make sure you practice some firing your handgun from a single hand (also from your weak hand). In a defense situation, you may need your other hand to manipulate doors, flashlights, seatbelts, etc.

I do different things on different days but I usually start out with some slow controlled fire on three full size targets, working on sight picture and trigger squeeze. I will shoot from seven to 20 yards.

Usually I will do draw, fire reload drills. I will shoot strong hand, off hand, moving forward, moving back, moving left and moving right.

When I load my magazines I add random plastic dummy rounds so I can do a failure drill at unknown times.

I wear my gun, ammo and holster just like I would for competition or just like I would for CCW.
I belong to a gun club with training pits so I can do a lot of moving and shooting that you cannot do in most places.

At the range I use, positioning (like kneeling shots) is not allowed, so I usually just do standing in different positions, switch hands, stong grip, weak grip, single handed with left and right, etc.

I use mainly the Mozambique drill (two to the chest one to the head) But I will also do draw and single-fire, draw and double-tap, and the draw/five-shots up the length of the target.

I use ball ammo for all of this, and then do a few of each drill with my defense ammo. Because the groups with my defense ammo are tighter, it allows me to see and know where my rounds will go when I actually have to draw. (If ever that should happen)

I do pretty much the same as most of the posters here. I am fortunate enough to have a place to shoot where there are not the restrictions of a commercial range. I hate commercial ranges.

I shoot multiple target under the pressure (timed). I do not switch up my shooting technique as the previous poster, I strictly "Double Tab" center mass. In the military we trained "Triple Tabs," and for the longest time following my obligation, I remained to shoot that way, but a real life situation caused me to reconsider my training method and adjust to double taps. I fire "Double Tabs" consistently, because in the event that I have to deploy my weapon, I want to rely on my training so as I do not have to think about what I am doing.

Multiple targets, in different situations, positions and conditions under stress.

Is a "Double Tab" the same thing as a Double Tap or Controlled Pair?? I am confused on that term.

Thanks for the insight.

Yes, I suppose it could be applied to different combinations of twos, like one to the chest and on to the head. I trained two to the chest. Center mass, controlled pair.
