Default Ladies Hunt at Lake Russell - Bear Questions

Ok so we can shoot a bear up there this week if it is not a sow with cubs and is larger than 75 lbs. So my big question is where do you aim to kill them? Broadside near the elbow when they are on all fours or is there another area that you aim for? Also do you eat bear? Do you process it like a deer?

LOL! You are soooo worried about that! I think I worry more about him getting into the coolers and our food.

if he's broadside shoot him just behing the shoulder maybe a little on the lower half. if you break the shoulder its that much better. they have a lot of fat and sometimes it plugs the holes up so you don't always get a good blood trail. they are quiet in the woods with the padded paws you don't hardly ever hear them. they are 10 times faster then people realize when they want to run, good thing about it is these are wild bears, not the smokey mtn variety so if they have any clue at all your around they'll usually leave the country. good luck, have some help for dragging.

head, neck, high shoulder, best shot with front leg forward in under arm. probably won't eat you.(I've only been charged three times in the last 30 something years out of over a hundred bears.) there are not very many bears on lake russell but you do have a chance of seeing one.

I shot one a couple of yrs ago. Had it processed like a deer. Also had some jerky made. The sausage was good. The Jerky was fantastic!!! Didnt care much for the rest of it. If I ever get another I,ll have the whole thing made into Jerky.
