Irritated
So I agreed to help this one child shoot a bow for a play that my daughter's drama club at school is putting on. Teachers wanted to learn how to shoot, it was supposed to be a door for me, or so I had hoped.
It has turned into a fiasco. A nightmare. The drama teacher has basically taken the bow out of my hand, and switched arrows, after she and I had a lengthy discussion about arrow spine/weight and so on and how it could damage the limbs for an arrow too light to be shot out of this bow and misuse and mistreatment and... you get the idea.
I go to the first and ONLY rehearsal tonight. They have the child RUNNING down a slope with the bow, then running up stairs with a bow. My heart sinks. She gets on stage, she's having trouble nocking the arrow. Something doesn't look right, I take off to the stage and the teacher says "Oh, Hi" I asked if there was something wrong with the arrow? She says, "Oh, I didn't like those that you sent so I bought some new ones and made these marshmallow tips for them". The "tips" she's talking about are basically foam padding wrapped up in cloth around the end of a very super lightweight arrow with NO POINT/TIP/WEIGHT at the end of it. The child shoots the arrow UP OVER A CROWD OF CHILDREN and that arrow sails like a a rocket.
Okay, I'm thinking I'll let her go right now and teacher and I will have a talk afterwards. Teacher gets upset that it's taking child too long to nock the arrow so she tells the little girl to go ahead and nock the arrow and then run, down a slope and back up the steps with the bow in hand with the arrow nocked. THIS is where I put my foot down. I told her under no circumstances was this child to run with a nocked arrow, marshmallow tip or what, I didn't care. Teacher got mad.
I'm so beyond mad at this woman. I'm trying to hold my tongue and keep peace because my daughter loves this class and club but when she's putting the safety of children out of mind for the name of her thespian productions and dreams, I have to draw a line.
I won't even comment on the total lack of respect for a prop that was loaned to them, someone else's property. I watched this child use the bow to brace herself standing from a kneeling position and so forth and so on. I almost had to leave. Granted, it's only a $150 bow. It's not one of my Widows or customs or antiques, but have some respect why don't ya?
I think all I can do right now is pray for the best and when the final showing of the play is over with on Thursday night, come home and write a nice email to the school principal explaining how this woman had gone against everything I had asked her NOT TO DO and put safety second. I'm so frustrated.
Just because you danced around in the park on Sundays while your friends played Robin Hood and did the whole Renaissance thing, does not mean you are an expert or should go against the wishes of the person who trusted you with their equipment and the safety of the children that it would be used around.
Rant off... for now.

Don't think that thought hasn't crossed my mind.
I just don't get it. I spent 3 HOURS with the child and the teacher one Sunday afternoon going over all of this, time and time again. I must've been talking to the wind cause she's not holding true to ONE SINGLE THING that I told or asked her.
Just another name on my list... grumble grumble grumble
The sad part of it, this child is really one of those kind of "lost" kids that just can't find her way. Yet, she really loves archery. Her mother is best friends with the drama teacher and they have basically cut me out of the whole thing. I'll never get to help this child or get her in the right mindset about a bow.
Idiots...............

Hey TBug,
Having worked in education I understand your frustration. This teacher is used to having the stage to herself and doesn't like sharing it, apparently with another. You are right. You do know more but in the teaching department some teachers, are not into sharing their limelight. I have worked with at risk youth and what you were doing with that one child was perfect! Give them some outdoor activity and they thrive! They need someone like you to encourage them. Hmm...what about the childs dad? Work on him. Maybe you can get him on your side? Is there a P.E. class this child goes to. Ask the coach or school if archery could be introduced. Just a thought. My heart goes out to you for at least trying; now you feel my pain that I always went through. After all my hard work with those kids, I knew, at the end of the day, they had to go home to have their goals and dream stomped on by parents or lack there of.

Thanks El
Heck, I don't want her stage, I get stage fright, I'd just throw up on someone's shoes.
I just want to ensure that my daughter or someone else's child doesn't get skewered by the "marshmallow arrow" and that my bow is returned in one piece.
To top it all off, the teacher is pregnant so Muddy's suggestion of my beating her up won't work. Although if she weren't....
Just can't believe she's willing to put safety at risk. I'm just dumbfounded by that.
But she's just dumb.

Muddy suggested you beat her up? And I thought he was peaceful fellow!
TBug you did your best. It's all you can do now. I've learn to let it go. Maybe the child will remember her experience with that bow someday.

He tries.
I think I'm just gonna pray about it and then let her know how I feel when it's all said and done. The kids have worked hard, I don't want to overshadow that.

I hate to even mention it, but if the safety of a child is involved, regardless of your daughter of not, I'd pull the bow and tell the teacher if she can't follow directions and respect your education/experience with archery, she's on her own.
She already bought some arrows, let her buy a bow.
Just my opinion, but, I haven't prayed about it either.
God Bless,
David B.

Hmmm, wow.
I guess the red lasers from my eyes burning holes into folks last night made for a change of heart.
Tonight, the shooting path was clear, no children were in the way, no running with a nocked arrow, no leaning on the bow or using it for support, the fight scene and arrow flinging went off without a hitch.
I was holding my breath and then I saw the children moving out of the way, almost like the seas parting and all was well with the world. She didn't shoot as high as I had shown her, and from the audience, it looked like she really was going to take the White Witch's head off but she had clearance and the effect was great.
Thank You Lord and everyone else involved.
I guess the devil hath no impact like me when I see archery being abused.
And on another note, Abbey the Mouse didn't do so bad herself. She only lost her ears one time.

Yay TBug! So glad for you! Sounds wonderful.
Sometimes everything does just all fall together like it should.
I have been praying all weekend and this week for a lot of things and this was one of them.
Maybe the others will be answered as well.
Night all,
El

Bobman, we don't want anyone to understand us; just to love us! That's where you fellas mess up. Don't try to figure out what a woman is thinking just go with the flow...

X2 from another teacher. What a shame. We need more community members involved and to chase one away is a sin in my book.
