I'm sure there are more references to go from but this is the one I got the info from that said the .260 had more recoil.

http://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm

It is not much more but it does state that the .260 has more recoil with a 120gr bullet than at 7mm-08 with a 140gr.

Compromise? I shoot the 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser Cartridge in a Remington 700 classic. 120 gr bullets (like a Nosler ballistic tip) are fine for deer, but I switched to 140 gr bullets because we now have lots of hogs. Internal ballistics are fine, and with moderate powder loads I get good accuracy at about 2500 fps velocity. The strong point of the .264 bullet is its ballistic coefficient and excellent penetration.

Chuck Hawk's doesn't even have enough sense to compare rifles weighing the same and he doesn't list the powder charge. I've seen that chart before and IMO, it's junk.

You mean Chuck's every word isn't handed down from on High?

You probably don't believe in the Tooth Fairy or Santa either.

Shhh, you're upsetting the children......

I have killed deer with both no problems. Bullet selection is king with a velocities breaking 3100 fps and becomes more critical when you are talking 95 grainers or there abouts. The 85 gr TSX and any of the partitions make the penetration of the 243 (6mm-08) a non issue. I have also done a little experimenting with the XP3 and it seems to penetrate great as did a 95 gr fusion after breaking ribs going in and out even at close range. People kill much larger game with 243's than our puny little ga deer. They are plenty of gun. However if I expect to shoot over 300 yds the 270 WSM is coming along. My Encore 243 is a pleasure to shoot and kills with authority but I believe in using sturdy bullets. Congrats on the purchase of the 7mm 08 it will serve you well.

Do you know where I can get another chart? That is the only one I've seen that lays them out like that. It would be good to have another one.
