Default 2000 Camry Water in passenger floor board

When it rains, I get water in the passenger side front floorboard area. I'm wondering if my windshield has a leak. I have a sunroof, but I'm wondering how I can troubleshoot where this leak is coming from.

Any ideas?

My wife has a 2009 Nissan Versa and had the same problem. Took it to the dealer last week and it was broken drain in the channel around the sunroof..... or so they say.

Dust some baby powder on the inside of sunroof seal and lay a sheet of plastic on the floor and dust with powder. Then look to see if you see a run or a drip point.

You might want to clean the tray under the windshield wipers out. Leaves and debris can divert water into the fresh air vent.

open sunroof and pour a little water in trough around sunroof opening. Usually have drain in front corners on both sides. See if water drains quickly. If not, try to get a blower nozzle and blow out drain. To check windshield - spray soapy water around outside edges and use blower around entire inside of glass - you will see bubbles come up if windshield is leaking. You may also want to check heater box drain line under dash. They will get clogged up with leaves and trash.

also look under the car for a missing body plug. they are made of rubber and are normally round or oval in shape.

all great tips, guys! I'll employ them this weekend. I think I'll work my way up from the bottom....starting with the plugs under the car, and working up to the sunroof.

I'll post the results....

Well, I just opened the sunroof and slowly added water to the trough...the water started leaking into the cab of the car. Does that mean that the drain is clogged? I looked at each corner but can't see the drains....or anything clogging up an opening.

Thoughts?

There are drain lines you just cant readily see them, usually they are located in the corners and run down the "a" and "b" pillars and drain undr the car out of sight....I'd be more suspect of the fresh air intake area or the windsheild seal...

Without removing the plastic trim inside the car you probably won't be able to see the drain lines....

look closely in both front corners of the trough surrounding sunroof. the drains are usually no bigger than a pencil. A lot of times leaves and trash will fill over the hose so you may need to clean to find drain opening. Where was the water coming in when you tested it?

Check this out. Your problem is common to many sunroofs on many makes and models.

http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl897e.htm

Go to Toyota Dealer Service Department and ask for copies of all TSBs related to your vehicle concerning sunroofs as well as a peek at the service manual diagram/illustration. Get them to give you some idea of the cost if they do the repairs. Decide if you want to get them to do it , or your trusted neighborhood "wrench", or do it yourself. Be aware that compressed air directed at a clogged drain may blow the drain hose off the nipple (if it isn't already off). There are usually 4, 2 front and 2 rear.

Best wishes for a quick, cheap fix!
