Default Low flying plane on Sinclair this morning

We fished sinclair this morning (crooked creek area) Mid morning, a small single engine plane (looked like a stunt plane) came past us no more than 20-25 feet above the lake. He followed the lake channel and went out of site!!!! Then probably 20 min later he came back by us going faster and even lower to the water!!! We were anchored and he flew right by us!!! I could have casted and hit him, it was crazy... Anyone else see him?

I'm seen a plane doing that a few times but it was in island creek. Pretty fun to watch from my dock. Not sure how I would feel about him buzzing my boat though.

I have seen him several times do that on the lake when we are down there on the weekends.. And we are up on the northern end near the Oconee Dam.. Always wondered what he was doing..

Saw a group of 8 airplanes on west point earlier this spring flying real low it's was neat to see. If water keeps dropping they wil be able to land in a couple of months.

We used to encounter low-flying planes regularly on Lake Oconee for the first few years after they filled it. But we discovered quickly that it was best not to pay them too much attention --- or the speedboats that would appear out of nearby coves to retreive the bale-shaped objects they were dropping in the water!!!!

I know one night me and my best friend in high school were out doing some night fishing in his Dad's skeeter when we noticed something odd flying over. Both of us were/are aviation buffs and we both picked up that something didn't sound right about the plane approaching us. His altitude was fine, but then he passed between us and the moon and we were surprised to see that it was TWO planes, nose to tail, with the back one running no lights of any kind (They were apparently flying together like that so they would only show as one blip on radar. I'm sure the front one probably had a filed flight plan, but the back one...............). Well, they went on a little further and we again detected a change in the sound. Sure enough, here came the back plane, flying about 50 feet off the deck leaving a trail of large splashes behind it. About that time we heard multiple speed boats fire up in a cove across from us. They quickly came out and started retreiving the packages -- one of which had landed close enough to us that it's splash rocked our boat! My buddy wanted to go see what it was, but I said absolutely NO way!! A boat pulled up to that nearest package and I could clearly see the guy standing on the bow holding an FAL in his hands staring at us!!!! We just turned the other way and kept right on fishing like they weren't even there, which was probably a wise decision since the boat went on their way a minute later. it shook us both up pretty bad and we headed back to the dock as fast as that 'ol skeeter would go!! Called the local Sheriff's department and the DNR and told them what we had seen, but they didn't seem surprised. Turns out, lots of folks had encountered these night fliers out on Oconee around that time doing the same thing. Of course, at that time Oconee was pretty much completely undeveloped and it was common to fish all day long and only see a couple of other boats, and there were almost no structures on the lake because it was before RJ Reynolds broke their promise (to keep Oconee undeveloped so it would remain primarily a fishing and hunting lake, lol) and sold off or developed the massive amount of shoreline they owned. Turned out good for my buddy though -- he and his father developed and built almost all of Reynold's Plantation and they are still 2 of the largest builders in that area (primarily commercial developers now though). My buddy used to later joke that we could've got rich off one of those bales --- I told him we more likely would've got ourselves killed if we had done anything like that. Now if it had been kegs of beer, well that might've been a different story, lol.

Yeah, in their early days Fedex used some experimental delivery techniques on some of the more rural parcel destinations. I think they finally phased out the "Low flying plane to a speedboat drop at midnight" a few years ago in favor of a more traditional "Plane to hub, truck to doorstep" system.

The old way was convenient if you needed a case of Jitterbugs on Sugar Creek at 2am though.

I kinda miss the old days.

Saw this happen on Lake Lanier on memorial day last year in broad daylight. Two jet skiiers came and picked up a package. The people didnt seem like shady characters at all, though.
