Strangest shot while dove hunting
Mine: On a WMA in south Georgia I'm in the middle of the field and a guy shows up a little late and parks in woods beside the rest of our vehicles. As he is getting out out of the truck I shoot at a high flying bird headed his way. The bird folds and descends rapidly in to the back of a red pick up truck. The guy hollers to me that the bird feel in the back of this red truck. I holler back that its okay it's my truck.

Last year, I went out from my seat to pick up a dead dove in the field. I spot a dove behind me as I am in the field and shoot the bird, which falls over, and pick up the first dead bird. I finally return to my seat, but I feel something on my rear as I sit down. I get back up, look into my seat, and find the second bird of this story in my chair.

First dove I ever bagged (only started a few years ago), was high and headed right toward me. He fell two feet to the right of my lap. Could have caught it if I wanted and I didn't even have to get up.

My Dad shot a dove when I was turned around and it fell right between my neck and my game vest I had on.
Shot one and it hit my buddy in the back of the head. I was laughing and he was mad because he thought I threw it at him.
Scared one half to death one day. He fell like he was shot and put him in my vest. While eating a lunch snack my good friend said "Is that your dove?" I said "Where?" He said "Sitting beside your vest looking at you!" About the instant I went to grab him he flew off like nothing had ever happened to him. Must have hit him with the wad.

crazy doves
There was a guy driving through the field on a private hunt delivering water etc. when I shot at a dove. I crippled it ever so slightly. It went in his drivers window and out the passenger window. Scared the s**t outta him. I have 2 witnesses

i didnt do this but i saw it happen years ago, not including names even though the man that did this has passed on. The person in question had shot a bird and was walking to get it when a hawk flew down and grabbed his bird and took off. Well he put two shots into this hawks tale in a hurry it dropped the bird along with quiet a few tail feathers. You could hear everybody in the field laughing i almost fell off the bucket myself.

I seen one that absoulutely got hammered guy was shooting 8s I mean a little bomb full of feathers in the air. It folded up caught itself about head high and we watched it go into the next county with the afterburners on. Couldnt believe it with the amount of feathers in the air.

Gave a friend a box of 25 shells and bet him the box he couldn't go 100%. He proceeded to shoot the first 14 without missing. Missed 15th and deliberately doubled up on #15,16. Back on track, he went on a few more. Missed two in a row, deliberately waited for a triple, got it. Went on well after that, missing 2 other times, ended on a deliberate triple to get 25/25. Best shooting I've ever seen in my life and this young man was about 27. Oh, and it was 15mph wind in light rain. Doubt I'll ever see anything like it again.

Had been on the field for a while, and had to relieve myself. Got up walked about forty yds away to the edge of the field. Of course I took the gun with me. Well, midway through my leak my buddy hollers bird coming in. I'm mid stream, reach over grab my gun with my left hand throw the gun up and shoot, while still taking care for my business. Well, to top it off I watch as the dove plummets into my stool. My buddy still cracks up talking about it.

Buddy was riding 4 wheeler through the field going pretty fast. Dove flys over him and he folds it while still moving. Not the safest but a cool shot.

A couple of years ago, a guy shot one off the wire at my place. Everyone else was done for the day and hanging out at the barn where we watched this guy. When he joined us, the others started citing laws and fines against shooting sitting dove. Some of the guys were very creative and it was tough to keep a straight face when the "offender" handed me, the land owner, the $50 "fine." (I gave it back to him the next day)
Another time I caught a bird as it came tumbling down. But it was a pheasant, not a dove. Dang thing nearly knocked me out! I'll never do that again.

Boyhood memory...
Years ago, I went hunting with an uncle...he's gone on now, but was always quick with a witty reply or funny story.
Well, he just couldn't MISS that day! Every bird that came in range fell.
Finally, late in the evening, a fairly high-flying bird came into the field. My uncle had already knocked down several from that same height. This one, however, must have been wearing kevlar!
My uncle unloaded 3 shots then, without a hitch, yelled "fly ON with your head shot off!!!"

I was shooting next to an older doctor on a field in Barnsville. The shooting was pretty hot and we were both conscious that the other had not missed many. It was sweltering and we were going thru lots of water.
He turned his back to relieve himself and as he did, a bird flew thru the treeline and screamed over his head. Barely looking up , he shot left handed from the hip and dropped the bird graveyard dead. As he zipped his pants and turned around he looked over and yelled, "Top that!".

Trucks were parked several hundred yards from the field. We were almost out of shells, so I walked back to the trucks. Threw a flat of shells on my right shoulder and headed back to the field. Shotgun was slung over my left shoulder. Someone hollered "BEHIND YOU!!!" I looked up and the bird was right on top of me headed for the field at Mach 8. I dropped the flat of shells, unslung my shotgun, and rolled the bird with one shot when it was almost out of range.

A couple of years ago I was hunting with my grandfather (who is 83) on a wma near his house. There werent many birds flying but one came flying past to his left. the bird flew between two trees as my grandfather shot and actually hit the bird! I said "you hit it!" but he didnt think that he did. I went and retrieved the bird that had only one pellet thru the head. He was as shocked as I was haha.

I was shooting a field with my dad. I was probably 8 or nine. We were sitting along the woodline and some birds were flying directly towards us and veered to the right at the last second. I was shooting a single shot .410 and folded it. The guy sitting next to us was napping and the bird hit him square in the nuts. He just fell out of his chair in pain. My Dad will tell the story 20 times tomorrow. One of the great memories we have from hunting.

My buddy shot a bird, picked it up and put it in his pouch. The landowner called the hunt and we all headed up to the top of the hill to count our birds and shoot the bull. When my buddy pulled that bird out of his bag it stood up in his hand, looked around and flew off. We had one more friend left in the field a couple of hundred yards away, so we hollered at him and he dropped the bird.

Lesson learned and shot of a lifetime.
Decided to use up some old shells and when I was through a box and a half, with only two birds, I noticed my waddings were coming out like feathers, lesson learned. Switched over to some new shells and the birds had taken a break by this time because all was quiet on the field. My son who was about 120 yards away hollered at me that 4 were coming to me from my right. I swung around and shot the first bird, then the second, the guys start cheering. The third bird peeled off to the right so I lined up on the fourth bird and dropped it, louder cheering is heard. Put one shell in and caught sight of the fourth bird looping back around to my right and took a long shot and was able to get just enough in it to drop it. Cheering was heard across 2 counties and I was in total shock. Don't think I will be using old shells for hunting anymore.
