Default My employer says I can't hunt this year!

I went to work last night, I work 12 hour shifts from 6-6 and when I got there I was informed that I will be working 6 day weeks for at least the next three months. Talk about a kick in the teeth! Tell me opening weekend and football just started too. Shoot me now! I guess I can look on the bright side, at least I have a job and now I will be upgrading the bow I was about to buy to a HeliM! Some times I wish I was single so I could hunt that day off but I know mama and the two babies ain't gonna allow it.

If anyone in the Pooler area gets some fresh deer steaks they wouldn't mind passin along I would appreciate it!

If I'm knocking down 72 hours a week mama's going to have to understand I'm hunting on my off day!

Thats a tuff break. I had a couple of years there were I worked a schedule similar to that-I didn't get much hunting in.

I also had a season where I had been recently laid off from a very good job-I was able to hunt a good bit that year but the stress of being unemployed with little ones was lot.

Given a choice I'd take having the job and being able to provide for my family over ample hunting time.

Hopefully next season finds you in a better position-to where you can enjoy both

Yep I'd think of quitting. And second of all, you'll be working 7 days a week if Mama reads that statement about being single.

This. I've missed opening weekends, opening weeks and I'm having to change my vacation this year because of a required meeting. I'm missing the best days of the rut. But if it's a good job and you have a family to support its worth it

Unfortunately tough times like these require sacrifices be made. I assume the extra day = extra money right? That's good! Hopefully once it's over your lady will understand and let you go out hunting all weekend, every weekend for the rest of the year.

Quiting is easier said than done now a days. It's a good paying job and wouldn't be easily replaced, not in this area anyways. Not like I can't use the money and don't mind working hard. Just wish it hadn't been during deer season. Spent a decade in the military, multiple tours to Iraq so I am use to long days that never end. If I was a younger man with less responsibilities I would probably be in the woods come day light but neither is the case. Besides, I will be able to get me some new toys and have some monster paychecks. With any luck I will still get a month or two to hunt but I for now buck fever still runs rampant in this house!

I've worked 9 out of the last 47 days...I still get my share of railroad engineer peanuts every two weeks regardless. Guaranteed pay is where it's at. We're hiring....pooler's a good location.

I feel your pain, I'm very thankfull that I have a steady and stable job, but mine schedule is a nightmare. It takes away alot of my time from the family which really bothers me, and with both kids in marching band and high school football games, right now hunting is taking a side seat, I will get out some this season but it's not going to be much.

Military folks sent overseas just lump it for the most part, many plan their leave dates for hunting season for special time with the family. I actually had a young man who planned his leave dates solely around a father-son hunt in Nebraska (Pheasant), which he had great pictures and stories from.

Here in the USA, Soldiers get some pretty decent hunting perks - access to Military reservations for huting and fishing, reduced license fees, Space-A air ($10 travel anywhere big blue flies), and some states waive out of state requirements for Active Duty service members.

But to the question...Yup, I have missed 6 hunting seasons over my 23+ years (still counting) due to Military assignments/mobilizations/exercises. Doubt my experience, although fairly long, is by no means a record.

You are not the only one. My season was cut short last during the rut. I got called out of the tree for a conference call Nov 3rd as I was climbing down when a nice 10pt walked by. I could not shoot. I had to let him go so I could make the conference. I did not want to loose my job. So my best friend shot him two days later. I was happy for him but disappointed not being able to hunt anymore last year. Hope you can get some hunting in this year.
