Hay bale gardening

Have any of you guys tried planting potatoes in hay bales? Does it work? Was gonna give it a try,,,, thanks,,,,

Never tried potato's though. Might want to check with mlandrum on here.

I planted taters in straw in a tomato cage tower. Plants looked good but taters weren’t nearly as big or numerous as traditional dirt farming, they were clean though.

I planted some in a 55 gallon plastic drum.Filled the drum every 6 inches with straw as the potatoe plants grew. Made about 20 lbs of potatoes with a lot of work. I just buy mine now.
 
I do not have problems with tater bugs as of now (knock on wood). But, one thing I do is plant way too much every year. So, the bugs, hogs, and family get the leftover that we don't can or eat. I plant 3 different spots with a variety of stuff in each plot. That way, I normally cash in on some of everything.
