I have a new respect for barbless hooks

Aside from the fact that is all you can use in the park, and a lot of the waters are catch and release, I never gave much thought to barbless hooks until today. I figured I'd go fish the Gardiner River for an hour after work today and caught 2 nice rainbows. The second one got me...as I was unhooking the squirming fish, I sank the entire bend of the hook on a size 8 wooly bugger into my thumb. :banginghe Man that hurt, and I could only imagine trying to tug it out if it was barbed. 3 lb tippet is stronger than you'd think and I'll use my hemostats from now on, like I should have been in the first place. My thumb is still throbbing.
