Bogus classified ads

Can anyone tell me what is going on with all the bogus classified ads? I have sold a lot and bought a lot but have seen at least 4 bogus adds in the last week. It just has kind of got me scared to buy on there now because you dont know if it is legit or not and it seems to have started when they swapped to the new style classifieds.

Just recently there was a 2009 Kubota Tractor for $3700 and a Honda UTV for around the same price and both those ads were scams.

Tractors and side by sides at less than 1/4 of the actual value. Someone else posted an add about another item saying it was a scam.

I saw and called on 2 of them. First one, left contact info and got a reply saying...contact my father at _____ e-mail address.

Second one, I called and noticed that the number is a Text-Now subscriber (which is both free text and phone). Didn't bother to leave a message as I knew it was a scam. Still got a text reply saying to e-mail the father at such and such e-mail address.

Talked with GON and they are on it. Did make them aware that the big red side by side was still listed. They were not aware of that one. They did have info on Glock 19 that were a scam. Was told to E-mail or call if we see anything out of kilter

Hey guys. We are trying to stay on top of these scammers but they are diligent in their efforts. Mostly we are playing whack-a-mole with them as they are discovered. In the past we had a fee for listings which helped keep these scams at bay somewhat but we don't do that any longer which most folks are happy about.

We will continue to delete the ads and mark the users that post them as scammers so they aren't able to post under that username. However some are persistent and create new usernames. When you encounter on please use the "Send us an email" link on the bottom of GON.com page to give us a heads up. That is the quickest way to notify the office.

We appreciate your help and enjoy having you as part of the GON community. Like anything though be leery and mindful that knuckleheads are everywhere trying to scam people.

The bogus ads continue, if it seems too good to be true IT IS!! They seem to be stuck on ATV, farm equipment and the price is $2700 or $3700.

There was one a few days ago from a payday loan company in Calif seeking to help you fund I know this might seem silly and you might have pulled it but some how think I would be willing to pay the subscription fee to allow us normal people to have a place to exchange stuff

The ??? is in Illinois and will deliver for an additional $300. Send deposit and you have 5 days to try whatever I deliver and will refund if you are not satisfied. Same story each time. Hope we are all smarter than this.

We continue to try to stay on top of these scammers that are invading the GON Classifieds. Please continue to alert us when you see anything that just doesn't look right. The overwhelming majority of listings and people on the GON.com classified section are fine folks. As you know there are always a few derelicts that want to ruin it.

The best way to alert GON is by using the "Send us an email" link found on the bottom of the GON.com pages.

Thank you all for helping keep the GON Classifieds a clean and fun environment.
