For small farm yard in upper piedmont? I need to expand my grass covered area, not for a grazing area but more for mud control. I have some bermuda along the drive that seem to do well. I tried a variety of fescue in a lower shady patch, some made it some didnt. Most of the area gets full sun , but some is in the tree line. Just wanted some real world experience. Thanks!

When portions of your Bermuda get too chewed up by traffic just remove with a square shovel and plug in new pieces.

Fescue requires being reseeded to keep it from having bare spots. Bermuda fills itself in.

Bahia.

Doesn't run all over the place and out in the road like Bermuda, either. Makes a good grass for low-maintenance areas, and looks decent when you mow it.

Bahia sounds interesting , looks like its shade tolerent too.

If you plant Bahai you need to be picky on the variety for cold tolerance and Bahai is not shade tolerant, it's just more shade tolerant than bermuda.

Whatever you go with take some time and prepare your soil. Adding topsoil, softening the surface, adding lime etc. so as to provide a suitable grass growing surface. Once you start spending money and time on it crabgrass will likely notice and move in for free.

Bahia in the yard is for people who like to cut grass. It's good along the highway and such for erosion and to get other grasses started, and it can be killed after other grasses have matured, MZM Turf Pro, Dupont Cimmaron, Clean Pasture, are all good for killing it and no other grass. Is it to cool for centipede in your area?

Not sure, it might be, seems like it takes to long to establish for my needs

The Upper Piedmont region of Georgia will not support Fescue. I see you are from NE Ga. is this for a hunting property down south of you?

In the Upper Piedmont region of Ga Centipede and St Augustine will do well, and run and take over areas like Bermuda will. However centipede won't tolerate standing water.
