I`m pretty sure his articles got me interested in flyfishing when I was a youngun.

RIP, Lefty. I too grew up reading his articles in the outdoor mags.

Years ago, while riding the crest of Hook'n Bullet TV shows, Lefty made a local appearance. My fishing buddy spoke to him and asked him about a fly he had written about and attributed to Flip Pallot, I believe it was the Prince of Tides. Lefty took Robert's name and address and two weeks later, he got the fly and tying instructions in a letter signed by Lefty. He never had a big head about his fame and was one of those rare fishing writers who could fish and cast as good as he could write. Charley Waterman was another such writer and all around good guy.
