I came up with this pattern this past year. I posted it on another forum but thought I would share it here.

Hook: size 10 3x
Tail: rabbit whisker
Abdomen: Med size copper and black wire
Body: turkey tail, brown dubbing
Legs: knotted brown biots

biot legs (made easy)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seeing some realistic flies recently and seeing some great looking legs on them I had to figure out how to tie them. I learned the legs are made from knotted biot feathers. The trouble was how to tie the knot in that little strip? With what started at several minutes to tie each one I knew I had to come up with a better way. There might be a better known way but this is what I came up with and I'm down to about 15 seconds per leg now.
First I use a fluke multimeter wire clamp and a threading tool.

Next grip the butt end of the biot in the clamp.

Next wrap the biot around the clamp and pinch with finger

Next pass threading tool under loop you made and let the tip of the biot get inside the loop of the threading tool

Next pull out the threading tool pulling the tip of the biot through its own loop

Next slide the knot off the plastic clamp and pull the knot down to where you like and tighten
