More food for thought concerning soil health and food plot strategies

Lets bring this bad boy back to life, minus Mr. KnowItAll.

I've really turned my attention to creating a higher percentage of OM in our food plots mainly for moisture holding and microbes. I always enjoy knowledgeable folk that can interject their experiences and wisdom. How are you improving your soil/food plots this year for the upcoming planting season?

We, of course, limed back in Sept. and have seen a slight change in pH (5.5-6.0) but I'm anxious to get some more lime on the ground to hopefully boost it some more. I know the lime hasn't had a ton of time to amend the soil but I get antsy :bounce:

Don't get too antsy and over shoot your soil test in the opposite direction! ;) We always say that it takes 6 months for the lime to start it's job, but it also might take 3 years to fully complete it's work. Once your ph is optimum, then just adding smaller amounts of lime is needed to keep it in it's range.

If you limed per the soil test, and limed last fall, then take another soil test this fall and see where you are.
