Knife/pistol scales

Just curious. I have some wood I'll be cutting into scales for knife handles/pistol grips. I realize it's not a one size fits all, but there has to be a one size fits most. That said, what would be a good size for me to cut a few to sell?

Google "Jantz" or "USA Knifesupply" and check their blank dimensions for a relative standard. I cut my own so I don't go "by the book".
