Very basic reloading question

Where do you guys buy your bullets? Anywhere have free shipping? Was looking at the hunters choice cast bullets on Midway. Cost is great, .12 cents a round, but shipping adds 25 percent.

Where do you live? My Local Gun Shop has a great selection of reloading supplies,
If you're only buying a pound of powder and a 100 bullets, Smallwoods, Sharpsburg, east of Newnan off Ga 54

Shooters Pro Shop is Nosler's outlet. Quality bullets at a discount. 10% off for vets and first responders

Everglades ammo, but not sure they have 30-30

LGS had powder and primers. Midway had boolits but 100 count was $15 plus $10 for shipping. I want to cast my own, but I'm taking one step at a time.

My go to supplier of components is https://www.powdervalleyinc.com/ Prices are cheaper or as cheap as most and shipping very reasonable. I had to quit using places like Midway. Shipping and handling is atrocious....

Another very basic question. I'm sure this will all make sense one day. I have 3 reloading manuals. I have poured over the 30-30 data. I'm having trouble getting a starting point for my 165 grain cast bullets. Manufactur states that the bullet will not lead the barrel at speeds below 1600fps. The starting charge listed was 27 grains at 1900fps. 31 @ 2200 for a Max. Does that mean I can't use that powder to make a 1600fps load? Is the starting charge in the manual a true minimum? I didn't really want to add a gas check for my practice round.

Low velocity loads...

I've not researched this recently however the starting load has always been the recommended minimum load recommended if the powder manufacturer has not stated otherwise. To reach the lower velocities you want go to cast bullet load manuals or powder manufacturers web sites. Use only the powder and loads that list those lowere velocities. The Lyman manual used to show many low velocity loads for lead bullets.

Thank you Alan. I got the cast manual ordered. It has the load info I wanted. I have H4895. They list a 17 grain starting load at 1300fps. Also saw a note that h4895 could be used at 60 percent of max charge for reduced recoil loads. I was taking the listed starting charges as a true minimum.
