For the last several years my son and I have fished one of our ponds that has some 10 to 12 lb cats in it using 6lb line on ultralight rods. A lot of fun and you can usually only get two max before switching to another pole because the line is so stretched. Hooked up with 3 today and got 1 in. Was really focusing on shellcracker with crickets and small hooks but a few cats came in.
