Man, things sure have changed since I was a kid. I seldom recall hearing anyone cussing much when I was young and I never heard kids do it in public. If my Dad had heard me cuss or any of my friends for that matter it would have been bad news.
In the last 3 months I've witnessed incidents where teenagers cussed very openly in public with no concern for who was around or if anyone heard them. It appeared to be part of their everyday life and language. I'm talking about what most consider the really hard, bad stuff.
Leaving a high school football game last month a 16 year old or so kid was walking with a group of 6 or 8 kids that included his little brother who was about 9 or 10. This kid was letting all the bad stuff fly for anyone to hear. I was with my wife and 2 sons and finally couldn't stand it anymore. I confronted the kid and told him I'd appreciate him watching his mouth and not talking like that in front of my kids and wife. He didn't back down one bit and started yelling at me about free speech. After I saw where it was going I backed off and bit my tongue. Not worth getting arrested over.
At a Waffle House a few weeks ago I was eating lunch with my 12 year old after a hunting trip. Four clean cut teenagers came in and sat by us. They weren't loud but about every fifth word in their conversation was bad trash. I again bit my tongue and left as soon as I could.
Getting a haircut Monday afternoon there were two 17 year old or so kids sitting in the chairs talking with each other as they got their haircut. The filth out of their mouths for all to hear was unbelievable.
I used to have a talk with people who did this kind of stuff but after being surrounded by some kids who weren't going to back down I promised my wife I'd just keep my mouth shut and go on. My kids have seen me stand up enough in the past that they know without a doubt what's right and wrong. That'll have to be enough.
There sure are some parents out there doing a poor job of raising kids. I know that's always been the case but I've never seen things as bad as they are right now (or maybe I've been living in a bubble for too long). What's this world coming to? What a shame...............
