When I first registered my used MonArk boat the DNR didn't like the HIN (it started with MAK) and they rejected it. It didn't match their handy dandy US Coast Guard HIN manual that said a boat should start with two letters assigned the manufacturer. The boat had previously been registered in GA, but the orig owner had let it lapse. I sent them a photo of the riveted HIN to prove it was the original HIN. They then accepted my registration.
