Burial at Sea

Great post Resica! Should be mandatory reading in our junior and high schools.

I arrived in VN on July 3rd 1968 and truly did not believe I would make it back home alive. I had already lost a couple of high school acquaintances and like many had watched the daily fatality counts on the evening news. Only God knows why I was spared but I was and have always felt a debt of gratitude for so many who either did not make it back to their loved ones or came back with all kinds of physical and/or mental disabilities. It breaks my heart to hear of those being lost each and everyday somewhere in this world.

May God bless all of our troops everywhere and all vets who have served. May He bless the families of those who serve us.

I have participated in over 50 funerals
I have notified two families that their son's were dead
I was a Casualty Assistance Officer for one family
I have buried two of my Soldiers in the last two years (neither due to combat)

I have less than 40 days left in Iraq for this deployment and I go to bed every night praying I bring every Soldier home with all of their eyes, fingers and toes.... so far I have been blessed... had a few close calls but so far I am 100% good to go...

I can understand the gentleman's angst

I never ever would wish what he had to go thru on anyone..
