I lived in Florida for 23 years and we periodically got covered up with them. 30-40 holes in our yard each night. So it was a real pain in the butt, but also a challenge.

I bought one of those little things stores use to tell them when someone comes in the door. This one shoots a beam to a reflector and then sends a signal. I put this thing up in my yard inside an old aquarium (to keep it dry) and ran the little bell to my bedroom window. Had a light and sighted in .22 rifle. When bell went off I raised the window and shot. Killed a bunch of them. Only way I know of to kill them effectively. And Radio Shack doesn't sell that type unit any longer.

Thinking about hiring out with my equipment.

I just disposed of my 8th Armadillo this summer. I use a live-catch trap. No bait, just set it between the bushes and the house and they walk right in. A .22 CB cap in the head dispatches them quietly.

Get a live wire basket trap and bait it with cantaloupe, and you will load the thing full, guaranteed.

They make one that is called a "Driveway Patrol" that works well also (around $18-20). It has a detector and a receiver both run off of batteries. I've been using one for years. You need about 3 of them to cover all of your yard. They detect pretty good and will transmit about 125 yards away from the receiver.
To get rid of them completely you need to get rid of what they are after... the grubs and worms in your yard.. I need to spray mine but never get around to doing it. So I have them also, it looks like a hog has been loose sometimes when I go out the next morning.

The information on the cantaloupe sounds good.. I got a little ole hole dug out back that has a small gator in it (not my choosing, the devil keeps coming back if I carry him back to the swamp), I think I will toss some cantaloupe down there near the water. He will take care of the possums on the half shell.

Agree with Bat. Used to have them come into my yard all the time. Bought some grub killer for the yard, and what do you know, the buffet was shut down and no more armadillos!!

Something like this will work well.

I can tell ya it is an ugly mess when you tag one at 20 feet with a .300WSM. After 2 hours of listening to him rustling the leaves under my stand, I couldn't stands it no more..

I've killed 20+ over the past 5 years since I moved, seems as if the neighbors is raisin em things by the dozen. I usually check the yard every 30 minutes starting at dark up till I hit the hay. On dark nights they come out earlier that nights of a full moon. Do most of my killin on the dark nights, cause they out and about by 10pm

get a trap and put it ouside his hole, or his trail that he walks, they generally take the same trail...but if u put it outside of his hole....get 2x4s or something along those lines and block it off to where he can only go in the trap...armadillos cant see so when they hit a solid surface they turn and go the other way....i am known as the armadillo trapper in my neighborhood...trust me...this method works...i trap usually one a night

Around where my Dad lives my step brother and I just take nighttime walks. It's kinda fun... just be quiet and listen and oftentimes you will hear them. You can either wait until they get close or spotlight them and pop em. They HATE my 10mm.
