Cartecay River

The family and I will be staying at a house on the Cartecay for a few days next week. I understand there are some good sized trout in this river. This true? It should be way different than the wild, mostly natives, I usually target.

I have just a few questions of what to expect. The house is just a little downstream of the lucky 8 community.

How big is the river, wadeable this time of year?

I believe the majority of the river is private. Will I be limited to fishing just along our property?

Any particular flies/lures y’all recommend right now?

Any special regulations to be aware of?

Thanks in advance. Matt

I have paddled the whitewater section downstream from there many many times but I've never been on the river that far upstream. I knew a guy who float-fished that area years ago and was always talking about catching big trout, apparently a lot of folks feed them. He would put in as far upstream as Tickanetly which is just the name of the upper reaches of the Cartecay. Water levels had to be high for this. As far as I know there are no special regulations anywhere on the river. Good luck!
