How is the reef fishing in the summer? Thinking about running out to KC next time I get loose and the weather looks good. Thanks

I've have decent luck the past two years fishing the nearshore reefs in the summer. Seems that you have to be dead on the structure to catch sheepshead. If you're lucky you might find a few keeper seabass and some schooling bluefish on top.

More keepers at CCA, L and J than KC. But KC holds some.

KC will hold Spanish and blues and some cobia although they are not legal to keep in fed waters after this weekend (they are still legal in state waters)

As the water warms up there will be cuda at KC as well as the deeper reefs and they are a BLAST to catch on lighter tackle.

But you can catch a good bottom bite all year long and some of my best trips have been in June... I have at times caught little tunny, and small grouper and snapper at KC but not often Mostly BSB , grunts, pogies , triggerfish and the like. oh and caught some HUGE spadefish at KC
