Default Broken Trailer

I know this isnít a fix it forum but my trailer is broken and thatís keeping me from going fishing. Heading to Richmond Hill from Guyton last weekend and noticed my boat wasnít riding level behind me. Once the boat was lifted into the water I checked out the trailer and saw that my crossmember was snapped (see pic). I got two new crossmembers and Iím waiting for the SS ubolts to complete my overhaul. Good thing I noticed it. Taking it apart and the left side was just about busted too.

Hauled my boat on I-16 from Macon to Savannah once.
3 broken springs.
Replaced all axles and springs and swore I'd never get on '16 again.

A little late I know, but here's where I got my parts.
No sales tax, free shipping and dropped off in my driveway.

If you have brand name and part numbers for what you're looking for...Walmart.com has a surprising variety of trailer repair hardware. Free ship-to-store saved me a bunch on shipping heavy replacement spring hangers, and price was lower than trailer superstore websites, too.

Did that cross member break from dissimilar metal (steel vs aluminum) corrosion? Check other locations with the same combination. Might be worthwhile to rig some type of isolation between different metals...

Default Just about busted!!!

Thanks for all the tips guys ... Iíve gotten all of the parts from west side trailer/welding in pooler. Theyíve actually been as good as or better than some of the online pricing. Iíve replaced both cross members, all the associated U bolts, ďLĒ angles/or brackets, and recovered/reinstalled the bunk boards. Just have to zip my wiring back up and bolts the lights back on ... a few more pics of how I jacked the boat up and the bad condition of the rear crossmember.

And yes it was dissimilar metal corrosion. The aluminum crossmember was just all eaten up ... the galvanized parts had a lot of rust built up on them but they were actually still in pretty good shape.

Is there any wat to extend your runners, maybe put a taper at top so that they will sit on the outer frame as well to help share the load?

very nice fix on the trailer. My kids are as old as you are now. My most favorite memories are doing what you are doing in the same waters. Thanks for sharing.
