Armed teachers become a reality in Georgia

I totally understand that and I wish they would let us be proactive instead of reactive, they defiantly need to do something different because what is being done right now is not working, when the parkland shooting took place a Swat Team from a neighboring jurisdiction was training in full gear a mile away and the went there to help they were turned away and then suspended with out pay because they were out of their jurisdiction and were not asked to help so can you imagine what they would have done to a citizen if they would have tried to help the system it totally broken and your right common sense seems to be a myth now a days, we need to Mirror what Israel is doing about being proactive there IDF troops carry their rifles 24-7

If you're worried about your 10 year old being around guns, guess you better step up to the parenting plate and teach him how to properly handle them.

Also, what 10 year old has a few hundred dollars lying around that they can just shove in vending machine at will?

I guarantee you more harm is coming to kids from screen devices through porn/etc that they are easily exposed to than guns ever would cause. And you can buy an ipad in a vending machine.

Not worried about "my" 10 year old. I am worried about those that don't have dads to teach them. Those being raised by gang members. Those that may kill several others before finally sub-coming to violence themselves. You can get a handgun cheaper than a ipad. That kid isn't gonna kill another one with an ipad either.

In a civilized society, we have to have rules. If not, we would not be civilized.

Unfortunately there are a lot of kids/folks out there that didn't have the benefit of good parents to teach them right from wrong. That is where a civilized society has to step in and protect ourselves.

My fear in the armed teachers issue is not so much the threat presented by an active shooter, but the day to day responsibility of having a firearm in close proximity to that many students. A momentary lapse of vigilance on a teachers part can result in an armed child in a room full of potential victims.
Not just a troubled high school student but possibly a curious middle school or elementary student. How many phones/glasses/calculators etc are left unattended and lost daily by teachers? Or anyone else?

Tragedy is not always the result of intent.

I consider myself proficient and responsible, as well as vigilant, in regards to safety around firearms. Carrying a weapon daily in this situation, in schools, would be a responsiblity that warrants training in my opinion. If one does not feel the burden of such a heavy responsibility then they are not likely suited for it.
The legal ramifications alone are reason enough for an individual or school system to require training, not as a limitation of rights but as an enhancement.

That is a step in the right direction. Hope this spreads quickly across the county. It won't be without its growing pains though and there will inevitably be accidents as a result, but it is the right thing to do.

I understand your point, to a point... It's not like we have not already seen a child with a firearm in a room full of students... I'll stake my bets with another firearm possessed by a trained teacher, with the opportunity to stop the threat. I don't believe that any prudent person is asking ANY teacher not willing and able to be trained properly to possess a firearm at school in order to stop a deadly threat to themselves and/or the students.
