Anti-Hog Spring/Summer Plot

I just joined a club in Stewart County that has quite a few hogs, sandy clay soil and of course a lot of pine trees with some bottoms here and there and a creek or two.

Can you guys give some input on a good plot seed choice to keep hogs at bay and will draw deer that will grow in sandy soil?

Also any soil prep info would be great.

Fence it in with a three to four foot fence if you don't want hogs on your foodplot. Even if you can't fence all of it in, do some of it and that will remain for the deer as they can jump the fence.

A trick from the old farming days. After you fence it, pull a strand of barbwire right at ground level and run it on the outside of the posts so the hogs will be pushing against the posts, not the staple. Pull that strand tight as a banjo string, if not it will just be a waste of your time and money. It will help for a while as they try to root under the fence. Won`t stop em forever though.

You can plant iron and clay cowpeas. They will not eat the plant but they will eat the seeds before they germinate.
