Alapaha River WMA

I'm an hour or so away from the new Alapaha River WMA that was opened this past season. I've been trying to get some info on the area but it seems to be scarce.

From what I've gathered the hunts they had this year were packed. Does anyone have any information on harvest numbers out there this year?

Secondly, is it only open a few weekends or dates. I can't seem to find that information either.

Has anyone been or hunted there? Any info is appreciated.

I live about 20 mins away and the couple times I went it was very packed. Not sure on the amount killed. Was open a good bit for bow but only a few days for gun if I remember right

Do you know where to find the open dates, also how did you do?

The only dates I had was for deer hunting and I got them when they had the public meeting to talk about the new wma. I never did hunt it just scouted it twice. I didn't really like the terrain so I didn't go back to hunt

Where is this WMA located , please.

Thanks

Between Tifton and Ocilla on HWY 319 in Irwin county. 7000 acers of sand dunes and scrubby pines. It was definitely hunted hard this past season. Hope the deer hunts are quota this year to cut down on the pressure a little bit. I hunted out there several times and passed 5 bucks because I was hoping for a big un. Also picked up a pile of trash from all the slobs throwing beer cans and bottles out. The GW said there was around 70 deer PSM but probably not any more with all the shooting I heard.

that is the busiest wma i ever seen . even when closed to hunting there is a steady flow of traffic in and out . people riding all the time . trash all around . i am sure the game warden could write a dui or two if they were around .

Sadly, I've heard nothing but the same posted above from those who have been.

Pretty sure it will be worn down within a short amount of time.

I live near by the WMA and can echo what every one else is saying. Only a few open weekends for rifle and a few weeks during archery. The traffic on that place is absolutely unreal. The amount of trash that people can throw out in less than a year is wild too. With a college being close by I imagine this coming year after people hear about it more it will be hunted extremely hard if it continues to be sign in for deer. Terrain is 85-90% sand and pine trees. IF you decide to hunt it, be careful and wear your orange at all times. Good luck!

I did not hunt it last year for deer but I have hunted it very hard this turkey season. The previous posts do have the terrain and amount of trash right. The traffic and pressure was pretty bad at the beginning of the season but has died down a lot since there seem to be only 3 turkey in the whole WMA. It's a good day if you hear one gobble and see a couple tracks. Have hardly seen any deer as well.

I have scouted there a couple times for deer. Found some good spots. Planning on going and camping there first buck only hunt. Hoping everyone sticks to the power lines
