In an attempt to stop trespassers from driving their vehicles through my hunting property, I need to put up two gates. I would appreciate advice on the type of gates and locks that have worked well for you.
Two 4" 6' long steel posts concreted in the ground and filled with concrete. 2 grade 8 eyebolts through the top of the steel pipes. Heavy grade chain and 2 Master locks.
If they snatch the pipes out of the ground you stick the pipes back in the hole, tamp the dirt and truck on.
Spending money on a fancy gate is just a waste of money. If they want in, they are coming in. Period.
gates only keep honest people out.....I agree w/ elfiii......I would use a piece of steel guide wire w/ a 4-5 foot section of white pvc pipe for visibility.....they will steal the chain......
Steel guide wire is a good alternative. So far I've only had the posts pulled out of the ground once and they couldn't cut the Master lock hasps so they left the chain. That's when I switched to the 4" pipes and filled them with concrete. They tried again but all they managed to do was bend the shank of the grade 8 bolts a little bit. They couldn't budge the pipes. They are still plumb. They gave up and left and haven't come back. There's easier pickin's down the road a ways, plus I'm hoping they broke the recovery hook on their truck trying to tear mine down.
The scrap metal market caused them to steal three gates off of my property... One farm gate and two heavy duty steel pipe gates all of them were 16' long, Gotta love low life scum!!! Either we have to deal with poachers or thieves!! Which are the same in my book
