Seems to be pretty easy at my house.
I can't keep them from climbing into my Castnets I have at my shop. I finally had to quit hanging them up and started rolling them up and putting them on the shelf.
Seem to be looking for my nets , can't keep them from killing themselves.facepalm:
Bet this is the 15th or so I've killed..or my castnet has..:deadhorse:
2nd thing..is this a Red Banded Water Snake ?
Got 2 round my Camp shop. We enjoy watching them bout every day moseying around looking for frogs and such.

Yep banded water snake. Sadly they are mistaken so much for moccassins and killed. I have done it myself too though.

I'm with Nick, looks like an eastern mud snake. Hard to say for sure without seeing the side of its head, though.

Yeah, that 1/2" mesh monofilament is murder on them.
Seen it used to keep deer and birds off plants but it's a snake death trap.

Gone but not forgotten
In my Snakes of the southeast book there is a picture that matches perfectly.
Say its a Florida water snake. A subspecies of the southern banded water snake.

The first snake is a racer. The second is not a mud snake, but a banded water snake. Mud snakes have smooth scales while the banded water snake has scales with ridges on them (keeled)

Agreed. Thanks for the lesson. I should have looked closer.

That one definitely has keeled scales.

Store your cast nets in a 5 gal bucket with a lid! They'll last longer!;)

I ruin 1 or so a year on the Oyster Bars anyways.:bounce:
A baby Red Rat fell on the Brides head today.
It was at the top of the screen door and when she opened it she got a new Necklace.
Sure was funny till I told her so..:deadhorse:
