NC Mountain Bird

Opening weekend I took my oldest son to go chase some birds. We had six gobblers on a an opposite ridge. As I kept calling we got all six halfway down and then they stopped. We could see them strutting on the side of the mountain. Now we just had to get them to come down the rest of the way...and cross a stream...

After some more calling, two big guys broke away from the others at a fast walk straight to the stream. Unfortunately they passed below us through thick mountain laurels and we could not see them. We could hear them to our left. Then they started back the way they came, back towards the stream, gobbling and looking.

We hoped for a double, but I ended up being the only one who could take a clear shot. He tumbled back down the mountain and the other one flew off. It was an exciting adrenaline filled hunt.
