New to food plots

Just curious to what everyone is having success with. I'll be planting approx 2 acres sometime in early September. Harris County clay for soil type. Going to be sampling for PH soon. I have one small plot that I'd like to have something up soon for bow season and then 2 larger plots that I want a good mix for that will get me through the winter. Any advice/info would be much appreciated.

For your bow plot, you could go in 2 weeks prior to bow opener and plant some iron clay peas. If you get some rain and they come up, you could have a good spot for the opener. Then when it's time to plant for the rest of the year (late September/early October) go in and plow your demolished pea patch up and plant some cereal grains and clover.

I wouldn't plant the fall plot until October.

Do soil test and get the necessary lime working now.
