Stephens County Storm Damage

I have land in Stephens County near Patterson Pump and was wondering what the damage looks like around there? I'm dealing with clean-up at my house in SEGA and won't make it up for a few weeks. Any observations would be appreciated.

I can't say for that area but just a few miles north in habersham and white, its demolished. Mainly pines and red oaks. If you don't have many of either on your place, your probably OK except for limbs littering the ground. All trees we've cut off houses so far have been red oaks, and 1 hickory. Folks lived here there whole life said never seen it this bad. Its not Florida bad but bad enough. Worst widespread damage I've seen around here.

Im right next door in hart county and we got it baaaaaaaad. Big trees down all over. I lost a big white oak, a couple pines, n black cherrys. Alot of trees down all over. Mostly big oaks with huge heavy crown it seems. Worst storm ive ever seen in ga.

I saw a channel 2 report that showed Gov Deal going to that area to look at the damage. That probably means it was one of the worst spots.

Mt.Airy and Demorest were hit hard which is not far from your location.

I have family just east of Cornelia off 105 on the Middle Fork Broad River and they were hit pretty hard. That's maybe 10 miles from Patterson Pump as the crow flies. Trees down blocking the road and they just had power restored Saturday at 1:30 PM...five days without power is rough on your freezer. If you have any refrigeration on your place, I would empty the contents unless you can confirm with a neighbor that power was uninterrupted.

Here is a tip for those having freezers at remote locations like hunting camps etc. Freeze a small cup of water, a shot glass is perfect, and put a quarter on the top. Leave it in your freezer. When you open the freezer door if the quarter is still on the top of the ice then it's okay. If it's on the bottom then throw everything out...the power went out, everything thawed and probably ruined, and then re-froze when the power was restored.

Let me know where your property is and I can take a look. I work in Oakwood and live in Toccoa. I can go down 123 to get home and check it out for ya.

I appreciate the offer. I received some last minute tickets to the UGA game last Saturday so I made the 6 hour trip up before the game. It made for a long day, but it gave me some peace of mind. No real damage but a lot trees down in the woods.

On a side note, someone decided to cut several trees down to access my property. I'm getting really tired of people who have no respect. It seems every time I go up I'm welcomed with such a surprise.:banginghe:banginghe:banginghe

BTW-Tree cutter was right. Most of the down trees were red oaks with a few pines and sweet gums mixed in.

I saw a convoy of power trucks heading north on Saturday. I assume they were heading up there. They were just south of Dahlonega.

Rode down 123 on my way home just in case. Not a lot of damage. A few trees here and there.

Seems to be the way things work in Stephens Co and been that way for a long time. I guarantee it wasnt someone from out of town disrespecting your property...

I'm sure you're right based on the events that continue to happen on my property. Using good judgement to not post what I want to say... I just hope the old adage what goes around comes around is true.

For your sake, I hope so too. Pretty area in and about that part of the county. Hope your stuff gets left alone and you can enjoy your place in peace.

That's what I've observed in Dekalb as well. Lots of red oaks hit the deck in my neighborhood. I had the top of a sweet gum come down in my yard.
