The regs really aren't clear on the subject and it's been debated for years without a clear answer from law enforcement. Similar to using a tracking dog to recover game. Technically, it is hunting with a dog and even though they usually allow it, you absolutely could be cited if the officer felt like it.
The way I interpret is scents are fair game but any food that could be consumed by the bear is not.
Personally, I don't leave it to chance because you can't trust the popo.
Ain't no scent draws them like the white oak acorns do!! No need for all the extra weight, just find a loaded grove of trees and set up camp. won't be to long before old smokey bear himself makes an appearance.
I agree. Plus, the way I figure it, if the bear can smell the bait he can smell you sitting next to it. Better off finding a good location and setting up with the wind in your favor.
