Assuming that these 10 guns were for a person with a varied interest in guns and the shooting sports, not just combat or zombie slaying:

FOUR RIFLES:
1-- some famous model of bolt-action deer rifle, such as a Winchester Model 70, in a popular and versatile caliber like .30-06 or .270 or .308.

2-- An iron-sighted brush gun, and I think it should be a lever action in a pistol caliber like .357 or .44 mag. This can do double-duty as a home defense arm.

3-- A .22 rifle for small game hunting. Maybe a semi-auto, maybe a bolt. Maybe a pump. Maybe a lever. Not a single-shot though. Should be something that's easy to scope, but easy to take the scope off, too.

4-- a paramilitary battle rifle for home defense and militia use. AR, AK, SKS, FN-FAL, CETME, whatever floats your boat.

TWO SHOTGUNS:

5-- A famous brand and model of pump or semi-auto, that uses interchangeable choke tubes.

6-- A decent over/under, because that's the kind of gun that people expect you to bring to certain kinds of hunts or clay target games.

FOUR PISTOLS:

7-- a full-sized, accurate, powerful, handgun for the range, and for home defense, and for occasional openly carrying. (e.g. 1911, Beretta M9, Glock 17, S&W 686, etc.)

8-- a medium sized handgun for concealed carry or daily carry where weight is a factor. Maybe a 2" or 3" barreled .38 special or .357, or maybe a 3" to 4" barreled 9mm or .40.

9-- a true deep-concealment gun. Kel-Tec P3aT, Ruger LCP, NAA mini-revolver.

10-- a .22LR handgun. For cheap plinking at the range, and for teaching new shooters the art of handgun marksmanship.

1 - Concealable carry handgun (Glock 26/27, S&W 442, etc...), with plenty of magazines or speedloaders, quality carry setup (belt/holster), and a rotating case of ammo for ongoing practice

2 - 12ga pump shotgun (870, 500, 1300, etc), case of 00B, case of slugs, flats of varying shot sizes to cover all types of game hunted, as well as rotating value packs of Walmart shot shells for practice

3 - Some kind of reliable 22 rifle (10/22, Marlin 60, etc) and a bunch of rotating bricks of ammo for constant practice

That's all anyone *needs* and in my opinion people need to put more focus on practice and actually shooting than just accumulating different guns for the heck of it. If someone is not a small game/bird hunter than I can see the case being made for #2 to be a good rifle with lots of ammo and practice time behind it too.

no deer gun?

Griz, your collection would not include a "deer rifle" or anything with accuracy and power beyond 100 yards? I would think that the shotgun could only serve as a big game hunting gun out to maybe 50 -75 yards. With a scoped rifle firing a 150-grain bullet in the neighborhood of 2700 f.p.s., now you have accuracy and power to bag game (or knock down an approaching zombie) from 400 yards.
