Video editing software

I converted a bunch of old VHS videos to digital with Roxio Easy VHS to DVD3. I have all the files in MPEG and need a good editing tool. (free preferably). I want to cut and splice sections from each video and combine into 1. The software that came with the program does not work very well. What is good editing software?

If you’re running Windows, then Movie Maker should work for what you are wanting to do. If you have a Mac, then you can use iMovie.

I ended up figuring out the software that came with the converter. Movie Maker would not read the file type.

I use Pinnacle. My old hardware was Studio 10. With Windows 10 I Just got the Dazzle converter with the free software for about 40 bucks. Finally found a hi8 camera to transfer the tapes for those. It will break it down into scenes that you can drag onto a storyboard and adjust the clips, and create a video file. Does MPEG, Windows Media, AVI. It appears in this basic software the MP3 files were MOV I believe.
