Crimson Clover--When to Plant?

Hey Y'all,

When would the optimal time to plant crimson clover up here in the mountains?

I usually have planted in September. We are getting hammered with rain everyday and I was wanting to get ahead of the normal September dry spell.

I'm in SW Georgia, and I plant the first weekend in October. Less dry weather, and plenty of time to get a good stand before gun season.

I know we're all getting anxious :D but the best germination for most clovers, is when night time temperatures are below 60 degrees, consistently. Trying to plant now, you'll have very little germination till that temperature comes about, and weeds will have taken over the plot before then.

Follow Kawaliga's advice!

I am in the lower part of SC and the earliest we plant clover is the first week of October.

We mix oats and clover but if we plant earlier than this, we run the risk of burning the clover up.

Good luck!

The best time is when we are getting regular rain and the soil temp is in the high 60's.
