Any ideas?

I found these on a cedar tree along my driveway this morning. It does not appear they are attached to the limb and they are all over the tree. I was not about to touch them until I know what they are.

Any ideas?

That is apple cedar rust. You must have apple or crab apple trees near by. This is a fungal disease.

I only have a few apple trees and it looks like I need to get busy to protect them. Thanks for the info.

Yep, that is the fruiting body for cedar-apple rust. Later in the year, they will be dark brown, nut-looking growths. The fungus spends part of its life on a juniper like that eastern redcedar, and the other part of CensoredCensoredCensoredCensored life cycle on an apple, crabapple, or hawthorn tree.
