Deer stand on a Trailer

Has anyone ever built a deer stand on a trailer for mobility? I am considering building a 4x8 house on a trailer but need some ideas.

First off from now on I want my box stands squirrel proof. I hate the little boogers.

Secondly, how high could the stand be and still be somewhat highway worthy?

Thanks,
Thomas

Feller has one on a boat trailer in our club. Two does have been killed from it this season. Inside, there's a recliner, stove, other chairs, table, heater etc.. And he calls it "roughing it"

I built one on a boat trailer also. It turned out pretty nice. I built it here in Ga. and pulled it to Kentucky.

Dennis Green on here has a camp house he built on a trailer.
Pretty nice and don't think he had a lot in it

Almost impossible to make anything "squirrel proof".
Them little boogers are about as persnickety as they come.

Truck routes are 16' rural 14' urban *except* anything grandfathered in before the standards were devised. As soon as you leave the interstate you're on your own unless you get truck routing information. You can't rely on the signs because they may not reflect the last time(s) the road was resurfaced.

For the most part if you keep overall height under 12' you should have few if any problems.

fyi, around cumming a year or two ago, there was a built metal trailer based stand that extended / collapsed. it looked pretty cool.

the probably more then you want, but you can probably google and find a design. worst case, it may give you some ideas.

That is incorrect anything over 13'6 high you have to have a permit anything over 14 you have to have an escort and pole vehicle....

Check your DOT regulations for current bridge construction.

I told him to stay under 12' because once you get into huntin' country there's no telling how old the overpasses are.

He isn't building a 53' over the road box trailer. And I'm guessing wasn't planning on building an actual house. So oversize permits are probably not a concern.

I took it that since he asked about building on a 4'x8' trailer he was probably going to stay with in range of the possible.

Even so a 12' structure might be too top heavy to be safe at highway speeds. However if what he has in mind is a sort of shooting house on wheels then it depends how tall he wants to stand inside.

Drive down the road with something like that and see what happens.. It's best to make your stand no higher than 13'6 from the ground to the highest point and you wont have an issues just watch for low bridges which are usually marked. Depends on you money and your budget maybe one that cranks up with a boat winch and put for anchor jacks on all 4 corners of your trailer for support and you could easily use a 15 foot stand and not have to work about it being top heavy and turning over

I have seen a couple that use a boat winch to crank it up. One used a scissors underneath.

Were I to do one on a trailer. I'd put a metal frame under it and 2 inch pipe sleeves in each corner. I would winch it up maybe 8 feet and pin it through the pipe and sleeve with 1/2 inch bolts. A cross bar beam to go under the back of the trailer and blocks to level it with a tongue jack in the front to lift the wheels and give you a decent 3 point solid stance on the ground. A 4 foot by 4 foot box stand should lift pretty easy.

I'm currently building a fall line freeway bridge over north folk southern RR off hwy 57 in Gordon ga it is 36'6" that's what they require

Seems like an awful lot of trouble for a deerstand. Then you're limited to locating it somewhere that you can get the trailer to. You can get a good climber for a couple hundred and set it up in five minutes......

It does seem like a lot of trouble for a deer stand, but I have a 3 year old and a 5 year old. The last time I took them hunting in the tree climber one of them dropped his hat. It gets tiring climbing 30 feet up a pine tree with two children.

All joking aside, I want to have something I can take the boys hunting in that is clean, safe and comfortable. I have two box stands already and I did not build them safe enough for the boys.

The idea of the trailer is to be able to move the stand when the property owner does control burning of my hunting area. So far my two box stands have survived, but it does make me worry about how much money I have invested in the stands.

I have found a company that builds a 4x8 stand that is about 6.5 feet high. It comes with built in 4x4 posts holders at each corner. I am considering elevating the blind 4 feet along with putting it on a 2 foot high trailer platform. Just thinking if it will work out and considering all the options.

Fella I new put the box blind on the front end of the trailer so he could lower it down on the the length of the trailer for towing purposes. I think he used a winch to pull it up right and then bolted it in place for hunting.

A popup trailer makes a good one. A friend has one at our club. Pull it and use concrete blocks to set it up.
