User-friendly Design Software

I am looking into designing t shirts and wanted to know what was the most user-friendly software available. I know that I've seen Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Corel Draw recommended, but I am somewhat of a novice at this. Can anyone point me to some easy to use software? Most of my designs are going to be simple text against a background.

I've used a few in that article, and would have to say Paint.net was pretty easy to use.

And here is a great site for free fonts http://www.fontspace.com/popular/fonts

And remember, what ever program you want to try, you should be able to find many helpful videos on youtube, showing you how that program works.
