Just competed in the recent Bassmaster Open on Smith Lake in AL. Though it was quite hot during the event, there had been a massive cold front associated with the Irma a few weeks prior, which brought temps down enough to push a great deal of shad into the backs of creeks with fresh, incoming water. I fished primarily crankbaits and other shad imitations at Smith, but then I went over to Chickamauga and started fishing a similar pattern, and the shad and bass were certainly doing the same thing. On Chick, however, the best bite going was a buzz bait, but Im sure a spinnerbait and square bills would do well too.
Are you seeing the fall pattern happening on your lake, and if so, what is working for you?
