About a month ago, we had a dead, floating buck in the pond on our lease. We made our assumptions and moved on.
Last weekend one of our hunters killed a mature doe with his bow. He said she came in kinda lethargic and acted somewhat strange. After the kill, he noticed her mouth was black and that her tissue/blood didn't look right, so he threw it away.
After reading this month's GON article on EHD, both deer fit the description for EHD/Bluetongue. I've never heard of it for deer, but have for cattle. So, it seems we've had 2 deer with this disease so far.
Our lease in 435 acres, we've had it for 7 years, and deer numbers have been average to maybe slightly above average so far. Is there anything we should do? I'm worried there could be more, but I guess there's not much we can do to prevent it?
