Does this campground exist in GA?

Hi all.

I've researched myself cross-eyed on this one, and I'm striking out.

I'm tasked with finding campgrounds for a group. We generally do primitive camping with boondocking trailers/RVs allowed. We've had people do everything from debris huts to hammocks to fifth wheels. We also lose people who don't want to "camp". Of course everyone wants the campsite to revolve around them, and I'm in charge of satisfying everyone.

So the perfect campground would be...

Private-ish. Doesn't have to be reservable. We usually have some people go in on Thursday and spread out enough to reserve space for the whole weekend. But we have a lot of events, activities, classes, etc. so we want to be grouped together.

Have hookups. Not a tremendous amount. 3-4 would be a start. Electric mostly. Water not as important.

All types of camping intermingled - not segregated.

Cabin! Or cabins - for the people who don't want to camp. Anything from a bunkhouse up to cottage rentals. Sometheing for the people who want to attend, but don't want to camp.

Is there any place like this someone can recommend?

Thanks for looking!
Kevin

Look at Enota campground in between Vogel State Park and Hiawassee. I've stayed there in a tent AND in a scout barracks type building. Sounds like it may fit the bill....

I would say a smaller private campground would be your best bet. They might be more accommodating for a group. The problem is finding all those arrangements side by side. If small enough though the cabin people could walk over to the camping area. I can see where you wouldn't want the tent and Rv sites in a separate area.
My family has stayed at Nottely River Campground above Blairsville. They said the owners/managers were nice. That's been a few years back though. I've read about Enota as Dialer mentioned. It looks pretty cool as well.
Another one I ran across but don't know about is River Falls at the Gorge in Lakemont. They also have RV rentals as well as cabins.

Look at Alexander Stephens state park.

I never knew that was a former CCC camp. The Dining Hall reminds me of the Julian Smith Casino in Augusta.

It would be nice if the could find a group camp or group camping area to rent. Most I see though are all cabins or a pioneer camp with no electricity.

Hard to find a place where you can set up tents, rv's, and cabins all in a remote location off by itself.

I don't think nottely campground has cabins but they do have tubing and it is south of Blairsville. Goose creek campground is a half mile away from vogel state park and does have cabins with a stocked trout pond. Vogel has cabins and campground also with putput and paddle boats. Lake Winfield scott also has a campground but no cabins, not sure if they have rv hook up or not but their bath houses were nice last time I was there. All 4 of these are within a few miles from on another.

Nottely River's site shows cabins. My family was in a motorhome when they went.

I remember Goose Creek Campground. It was years ago when we went. We couldn't get in Vogel and spent the night there. If I recall the office building had some interesting stuff inside. Maybe the owners lived upstairs.
Any way I just googled it and it said it was permanently closed.
I've always liked Lake Winfield Scott. It's like a quieter version of Vogel. It has a nice pavilion. It shows as having one cabin although I don't remember one.

The OP was having some type of event. A covered pavilion would be nice. I see that Nottely River has a small one. Maybe a group could get it for free or it may be first come;

There might also be some county campgrounds with cabins as well.

Thanks for all the info. I'm going through them now.

One huge advantages the WMA primitive camping has is cost - as in there being none.

I'm a little surprised at some of the costs I'm seeing. I'm not sure the "I want hookups" people are going to have much sway here.

Some sort of private campground would be great if there were a one and done fee for the whole group or if only people getting hookups paid.

Thanks again!

What about a WMA or some other type of cheap or free campground for the event and let the paying RV and cabin people stay down the road? They could drive to the WMA campground each day for the event.

This looks interesting:

No cabins, but one of the best, small campgrounds around. Run by Gordon County (Calhoun) Parks and Rec. Very flexible, folks can tent between lake sites and the lake. They also have a large primitive group camp below the dam. Hwy 156 near Resaca.

Lake Winfield Scott appears to have all the choices:

You should check the cost of a campsite at a tourist place like Myrtle Beach. You can almost get a motel room just a cheap.

The Army Corp and the National Forest have some fairly cheap campgrounds without electricity or running water. Usually just a hand pump and pit toilets.
Even the price of these has increased a bit over the last few years. Like from $6 to $12 per site.
Usually there is a more developed campground a few miles from these type campgrounds.

Here's our setup at one of the Salacoa Creek park sites. It's a little hilly towards the lake, but the sites are nice. Each site has hookups, fire ring, grill, deck with picnic table.

Town Bluff Park & Heritage Center near Hazlehurst would be able to fill your needs. It has an RV park with 20 RV sites with water & power. It has a full modern bathhouse. There is a separate primitive camping area, but those who wish to tent camp & have access to power & water can setup in an open area in the middle of the RV park. There is a community fire pit area for small group gatherings & a conference room in the Heritage Center that will accommodate about 80 people. The campground has 2 camper trailers setup as rental units and 2 Yurts. The Yurts can sleep up to 6 people & have heat/AC plus ceiling fan. It is located on the Altamaha River with 2 paved boat ramps for those who wish to fish, boat, paddle, etc. www.townsbluffpark.com or check out the listing for the park in the campground site maps post in the Camping, Hiking & RV forum.

TrackRock Campground in Blairsville would fit your request. In fact a big group of folks here on Woody’s has a Hammer In group camping trip every year. It’s a beautiful place with tent , campers and cabins.
