I have a couple of 4 wt. mid-range rods ($$$ wise) and reels and line that I use for fun -- mostly walking the banks catching undersized brim. Use them to catch bait when I want to make that exciting. I pretty much tie my own flies, which are pretty basic ants, very small popper. and something something.
I want to move up so I can cast larger poppers and hair bugs. Would a 6 or 8 wt. be better. I'm thinking 8 just so I have the maximum flexibility. I'm not an "elegant" fly fisherman and don't intend to become one.
