Keep Deer Away??

Almost everything I have planted this summer was suppressed my deer feeding. Nothing matured or flourished including some chestnut and fruit trees the deer cleaned off.
We put a string fence with flagging around the fruit trees and it did the trick.
What is the best way to keep deer off of a large land masses up to about 7 acres.

I've heard of using milorganite but I don't want to buy a couple tons of it for no success.

Chicken manure and a field planted in 60% turnips. Both stink. Whenever I fertilize in manure, I will plant cow peas. it keeps the deer off until the plants are way mature. The deer eventually eat the leaves, leaving a bare inedible stalk that then goes through many growing cycles as if you planted 5 fields. I had no luck with milorganite
