A friend who has worked in Saudi tells me of these Mutawwi, religious police who go about enforcing Sharia. If, and when, on occasion, as at market, his wife dropped her head covering, these men would come up and tap her with a stick as reminder.
That he learned to tolerate that as his "cost of doing business" remains something of a puzzlement. It is something they laugh about, I find not quite funny. I could suppose they kept 'Murica as their true home, and this excursion into what appears a frightful scenario, as a quaint side trip into bizarro land. Where men are free to hit other men's wives.
But...maybe...
"hit on" here, as here in the States...is also not so unusual...and just as bizzaro.
