Can I resell?

Im wanting to test the market in pelts and tails in my area.

I will not be the one trapping or tanning, I would be buying already tanned hides only to resell for home decor (or to do with whatever they wish) reasons, probably from out of state if I can not find a local source.

Do I need a license to put them in my antique booth?

What are the laws if I buy dried hides and take them to a tannery and then sell them?

I called the WRD after reading the laws on the internet and still being unsure.


As long as you buy the hides tanned for resell you do not need a fur dealers license. Buying them from a trapper dried you need a commercial fur dealer license ($305/year - 2017)
Red and gray fox you can not sell without a trappers license, no matter if they are tanned.
Buying a $45 trappers license to cover all bases was suggested for the tanned hides.
With a trappers license you still can not buy untanned hides.

Bear you can not sell any part from anywhere, at all.
No teeth, claws, furs, bones, etc. He said even if its a polar bear (so it includes non-native bears).
He said to sell bear parts you have to take it to a state that allows it. Selling online is still considered selling it in the state of Georgia and is a no-no.

Exotic animal bones and skins are fine as long as they are under no protected laws (ie. big cats, rhinos, elephants are a no-no)

With a business license and tax ID, I would assume you would be able to either buy wholesale from a fur house or a tannery. Depends on how charming you are when talking with the folks at those locations. The NTA has some sponsors that give deals to NTA members etc..
